Accessibility Statement

Making The Creature Cabinet accessible to everyone

At The Creature Cabinet, I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to learn about, appreciate and be fascinated by the natural world.

Accessibility is therefore an important part of how I want this website and its educational resources to develop. I aim to make the website as clear, usable and inclusive as reasonably possible, regardless of how someone accesses it.

Our approach

I aim to make The Creature Cabinet:

  • Easy to navigate and understand

  • Clear and readable

  • Accessible using a keyboard wherever possible

  • Compatible with commonly used browsers and assistive technologies

  • Designed with appropriate headings and page structure

  • Available with clear links and descriptive text

  • Usable across different screen sizes and devices

  • Presented using readable text and appropriate contrast

  • Free from unnecessary jargon wherever possible

I also aim to make educational information understandable to people with different levels of existing knowledge. You shouldn't need to be an animal expert to enjoy and learn from The Creature Cabinet.

Educational accessibility

Accessibility isn't just about the website itself.

The Creature Cabinet's educational materials are designed to encourage different ways of learning, including looking, touching, handling, observing and doing.

Interactive resources such as labelled diagrams, real specimens, feathers, moults, pinned insects and owl pellets can provide alternative ways of engaging with natural history beyond simply reading information.

I recognise that people learn and communicate in different ways, and I want educational materials to be approachable for children, families, schools and anyone with an interest in animals and the natural world.

Images and visual content

Where practical, images will be accompanied by meaningful descriptions or alternative text so that important information isn't only communicated visually.

Decorative images may not always require detailed descriptions.

I will continue working to improve the accessibility of visual content as the website develops.

Videos and audio

Where video or audio content is added to the website, I will aim to provide appropriate alternatives where reasonably possible, such as captions, transcripts or accompanying written information.

Accessibility limitations

Although I aim to make The Creature Cabinet as accessible as possible, I recognise that accessibility is an ongoing process.

Some older content, third-party services, embedded content or external websites may not fully meet the same accessibility standards as the rest of the website. I will aim to identify and improve accessibility issues as they are brought to my attention.

Feedback

If you experience a problem accessing any part of The Creature Cabinet, I would genuinely like to know.

Please contact me if:

  • You are having difficulty navigating a page

  • Text or images are difficult to access

  • A link, button or feature isn't working with your method of access

  • You need information in an alternative format

  • You have suggestions for improving accessibility

Email: thecreaturecabinet1@gmail.com

When contacting me, please tell me which page or resource you were trying to access and, where possible, what difficulty you experienced. I will do my best to help or provide the information in a more accessible format.

Continuing to improve

Accessibility is not something that should be treated as a one-time task.

As The Creature Cabinet grows, I will continue looking for ways to make the website, educational materials and information more inclusive and accessible.

My goal is simple:

The natural world belongs to everyone. Learning about it should too.

Curiosity should never have a barrier.
